Martinsville Speedway

is located near Ridgeway, Virginia, just south of Martinsville. At 0.526 miles in length, it is the shortest track in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series. Martinsville Speedway, Ridgeway VABuilt in 1947, the track also one of the first paved tracks in NASCAR as well as being the only racetrack that has been on the NASCAR circuit from its inception in 1948.

The track is often referred to as the “Paper Clip” due to its combination of long straights and flat narrow turns that are only banked 12° in the turns. This combination makes for very hard braking going into turns and the necessity of smooth acceleration exiting the turns. Martinsville’s surface is unique, as it is paved with a combination of asphalt (straights) and concrete (corners).

Location: 340 Speedway Rd, Ridgeway, VA 24148 Opened: 1947 Capacity: 65,000 Track Shape: “Paper Clip” Oval Track Length: 0.526 Miles Banking: Turns – 12°; Straights – 0°
