is a multi-purpose arena, in Columbus, Ohio. Opened in 2000 it is the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Columbus Destroyers of the AFL, The Columbus Junior Blue jackets of the USHL and the Columbus Landsharks of the NLL.
Nationwide Arena houses a smaller ice rink known as the Dispatch IceHaus. The IceHaus is used as the practice rink for the Blue Jackets as well as youth hockey games and public open skating. Nationwide Arena was the first NHL arena with a second rink that was to be used as a practice facility and one of only two such arenas in NHL (the other is the Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils).
Nationwide Arena was built at the site of an abandoned prison – Ohio Penitentiary. Although many believe that the arena is built over the spot of the prison, the arena is actually built over the prison’s former parking lot. Nationwide Arena’s parking lot is built where the prison formerly stood. Some fans and employees of Nationwide claim to have experienced paranormal activities. Some Blue Jackets fans have blamed supernatural beings both for the death of a 14 year old fan in 2002 and for the many unsuccessful seasons since the team began play.
